Umeå Eco Industrial Park at Dåva

The Green Birch plant is planned at Umeå Eco Industrial Park at Dåva, Umeå’s largest industrial development area in the region of Västerbotten in northern Sweden. The park is being developed as a world-class hub for circular green innovation, recycling and energy.
Locating the project at Dåva provides access to established waste handling infrastructure, district heating networks and electricity, as well as strong road and rail connections. This enables industrial symbiosis with neighbouring facilities and supports efficient use of energy and materials.

Project Details

Green Birch is a planned waste-to-jet fuel initiative located at the Umeå Eco Industrial Park in northern Sweden. The project aims to produce around 100,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) per year by converting residual waste and renewable electricity into low-carbon jet fuel. With production targeted for the early 2030s, the facility is designed to significantly reduce aviation’s reliance on fossil fuels. At full capacity, its output would exceed the total jet fuel consumption of all Swedish domestic flights today, supporting long-term climate goals while strengthening a circular, resource-efficient energy system. A quick overview:

  • Location: Umeå Eco Industrial Park, Sweden
  • Project Type: Waste-to-Jet Fuel (SAF)
  • Annual Capacity: ~100,000 tonnes
  • Feedstock: Residual waste & renewable electricity
  • Timeline: Early 2030s production start
  • Project Location: Umeå Eco Industrial Park at Dåva, just outside Umeå in northern Sweden, a hub for circular and sustainable industries.
  • Project Objective: To convert residual waste into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), reducing dependence on fossil-based jet fuel.

Umeå Eco Industrial Park at Dåva

The Green Birch plant is planned for Umeå Eco Industrial Park at Dåva Umeå’s largest industrial development area—in Västerbotten, northern Sweden. The park is being developed as a world-class hub for circular green innovation, recycling and energy.

For orientation, Umeå is roughly 600 km north of Stockholm (about 1 hour by air or 6–7 hours by road/rail). The Dåva site is approximately 10–15 km from central Umeå, and Umeå’s seaport in Holmsund (Harbor) is about 15–20 km from Umeå—around 25–35 km from Dåva. Both Dåva and the Harbor/port area are planned to have rail connections, supporting efficient inbound and outbound logistics.
